what would you guys say is the max batch size i could do in a 50l keg i am shooting for around a 40l end boil amount
-
You could maybe get away with 40L batches but you'll need to pay close attention for boil overs. The half barrel kegs are the best to use they hold about 58L insted of 50L I find the 50L ones make great HLT's but I prefer the bigger ones for boling. To answer your question though I'm not sure how much they'll comfortably hold for the boil but I would assume 40L isn't impossible.

Fermcap can help you out with the boilover problem too, I use that when making starters on the stove and it really helps.

Thanks guys

I will play and see what I can do and worst case it will be a HLT some day

It'll work great for doing smaller batches. And fremcap does work wonders but I'm not sure how the long term ingestion of silicone will do to you. I used it for a while but now I know when to make adjustments to avoid boilovers.

I can control boilovers on my 30l pot when doing 26l so I will play and maybe try fermcap or something with out silicone
