So last night I wanted some extra kick out of a pale ale so I decided to put the beer in a French press with an ounce of leaf hops. I then let it steep for about 5 min. and served. It was very tasty! So I did it about 4 more times and the hop character got more and more intense every time. I'm sure I could get away with much less than an ounce maybe 1/4 to 1/2. So if you have a French press you should give it a go.

This probably wouldn't work too well with pellets. I may give it a try anyway. What's the harm?
So, you used the same hops for each beer? And, the flavour intensified each time?

I will have to try this. I have an aero press ( www.aeropress.ca ) and it makes wicked espresso ( The unit actually extracts the oils from the coffee grounds) I wonder if it would do the same for Hops. It uses a filter paper so pellets would work.

I have tried this method recently with pellets, and was less than satisfied with the results...

Yea exactly! The first time the hop flavour was mild. But every beer there after got more and more intense. The fourth one actually made my mouth tingle.

Interesting. Kind of counter-intuitive, isn't it. I've read that you can save the used hops from this and freeze them. They apparently retain the alpha acids. I'm not sure how true this is, but it'd be an interesting experiment.

We should invest in one of these

Roger has probably already got the plans drafted, and parts on order. :ninja:

That's funny. I've been thinking about something similar. But I'm gonna continue to use my lowbrow French press for now.

Apparently Picaroons has their hands on one of these!
