Hey guys,

I recently watched a video on youtube and the guy talked a bit about keeping your keg O-rings lubricated using keg lube or vegetable oil... is this necessary?

Vegetable oil surprised me... I thought that might add some taste to the beer, but if it doesnt... would any food oil work? i.e. Canola oil?

I use actual Keg Lube, it's sterile and food safe.
I brought in extra tubes, they're $5 each.  If you want some, I'll make sure I have some at the next meeting.
I have found it works really well.

Sure I would take a tube for sure.

Thanks

Kyle

I've kegged since 2005 and never used it. It probably is better to use, but when a 100 pack of o-rings costs about the same as a single pint at the pub, it doesn't seem necessary.

Good point hahaha... I bought an extra 4 pack of Orings, and replaced them all initially... so hoping they will last a while either way

As I said in a previous thread about it, I like using it now for more than just the ease on the rings.  The first thing I was asked by the Brew on Premise guy in Toronto, when I was having trouble sealing a keg was, do you use keg lube?  It makes it easier to seal, and keeps the big rings in better shape, too FWIW.
