Ringwood and Picaroons

Ive been quite impressed with Picaroon's ales. I think their bitter is the most authentic I have had on this side of the pond.

I know ringwood is not everyones cup of tea but I love it.

Did any of you folks ever get hold of any of Picaroon's yeast? I've used Ringwood a bunch of times before (wyeast whitelabs and escarpment versions). However, I'd love to try some of Picaroon's as I suspect it is the real duel strain version, if Alan pugsley set up the brewery?

I am thinking of just going in their and asking for a pitch of their yeast!

Picaroon also does open fermentation that also adds to the character of the beer.

It is Ringwood. The yeast has been reused thousands of times, so it has mutated and evolved into something else. So yes, if you want to replicate, it would be a good idea to take a mason jar with you at the brewery and ask.

Nice, I will definitely have to head over there and check out their open fermentation and see if they let me pinch a pitch!

Do any of you folks have any Picaroon's clone recipes? I was surprised to see that they mention a bunch of N.American hops in their best bitter Cascade, Willamette, Tettnang, & Mt. Hood!

I tried some more new brunswick english style beer that I was very impressed with- Fog Horn- I really enjoyed their Golden ale and their Special bitter was not bad either. I wonder what yeast those guys are using?

I think the reason the beer from Foghorn is reminiscent of Picaroons is probably because the head brewer of Foghorn was the head brewer of Picaroons for several years.
It's probably better than Picaroons to be honest...

Aha that explains why I like them both. For me these English style ales are refreshing. I love a characterful british yeast, and back in Ontario everybody uses boring old Californian ale yeast (or nowadays brett/lacto etc).
