I've been doing starters for a while now with a growler and I was hoping to upgrade to a stir plate and flask at some point. Just posting this here so if someone wants to sell theirs at some point, I'm interested in buying.

Super easy to make though. Enclosure (plastic container), old computer fan, old hard drive magnet, speed control knob, 12volt DC power source and some little nuts and bolts. Depending on how good you are at scrounging around you can make one for $5-10.00.

Oh, I didn't realize it could be so cheap to build. I'll have to start looking through my old pc parts

The only part I had a hard time sourcing was the fan speed controller.

I ended up ordering one from DX.com... Very cheap but take 3-4 weeks to get here:

They have different ones available if you do a search on their site.

Here is mine, it gives my yeast a nice cuban cigar profile

I have been meaning to get a different (fire and water proof) box but haven't gotten to it yet... I always think twice about leaving this one plugged in when I'm not home.
Give a man a beer and he'll waste an hour, teach him how to brew beer and he'll waste a lifetime.

I got my fan from some electronic store on prospect... thrift king? I don't recall the name, but someone on here must know. Magnet I think from Brew.

I agree, build it for very cheap.

What's the story on stir bars? Any DIY options?

I'm sure I'm going to lose mine sooner than later, haha.

Stir bars=eBay. If anyone needs to test for stir bar size I have a set of 6 from 3/4" - 1 1/2". Also the best ones to use have a ring around the centre to help it spin.
