first time I've heard of pineapple in beer .... where'd you get this idea?

Hey Jake, Shane from Hammond River Brewing ( @Canuck ) posted a similar recipe on the Brewnoser forum a while back and it intrigued me. Hopefully it turns out well enough to share in a month!

Hmmmm...this does seem interesting. I bet some Nelson Sauvin would go wicked with this beer! Hope you can bring it to a meeting Jordan.  :drink:

Definitely Al, I'll bring the results- good or bad. Tasting the OG sample, it didn't have a strong taste of pineapple so we'll see how it ferments out.

This is a pic of the hop/pineapple bag, post boil... tasted a few chucnks with the hop residue, and it was ... interesting

I would think a subtle flavour is all you'd want anyway.

Consider adding the fruit during secondary fermentation next time, it would be interesting to see if it is any better.

Two Wheeler

Kegged and sampled this last night... very subtle pineapple taste which is what I was shooting for, can't wait for it to carb up. I'll bring it to the 24th meeting.

Sounds really good, looking forward to trying it.

Jake

Cool. how much pineapple did you end up using in it?

I'll have a growler of raspberry wheat for the next meeting. I used right around a pound per 5 gallons in mine ... results in subtle fruit flavour.

I cut up a large pineapple from costco and put in the boil, didn't weigh it. 5 gallon batch

This will preserve a lot more of the fruit aromas, as the more delicate ones tend to get expelled during an aggressive primary ferment

Quick update on this one... at two weeks I didn't get much pineapple, and that was the common feedback at the last meeting. But at four weeks you seem to get the pineapple a lot more and it's quite tasty in my opinion

Might be the hops fading...

Two Wheeler

Yeah, that's my initial thought... not sure what I would do differently next time... don't think I would want the full flavour of adding it in secondary
