Wow! So many different kinds of hops! Where do you guys get all this stuff? Does the brewer shop in Fredericton carry all of this, or do you buy most of it online?

Planned: Cincinnati Pale Ale.

Noble Grape sells some of this, but it's $3/oz.  Check out hopsdirect.com or labelpeelers.com.  We do group buys sometimes, but if you ship to Maine, and pick up, the shipping isn't bad.

Brewing this one tomorrow morning.  If anybody is interested in tagging along, PM me. Brew day starts at 10.

Chris Craig

Wow!  That smells amazing!

I was a little disappointed while brewing this one.  I was 5 points low on my gravity.  It was only when I was running it through the CFC that I realized I never added the 1.25lb of corn sugar!  I sanitized a 2L jug, added the corn sugar and water to dissolve.  Poured it in, shook the hell out of it for 5 minuttes, and took a reading.  1.078.  2 point low.  I can live with that.

Chris Craig

By the way...everybody seemed to LOVE this beer at the last meeting, and while it IS a great beer, I used one hop bag for the bittering hops, and one for the rest of the additions.

Just saying...hop bags aren't evil.

fakr

you mean hop bags are evil......NOT!

whole leaf hops guys....naturally filters for you.  Mind you, you require a separate freezer to store them in....

Richard

Well, just think what it could have been if you'd let your hops be free-range :P

I stand by what I've said re: hop-bags; I've seen (tasted) a side-by-side, and the difference is rather epic for pale ales. I suspect this recipe would have saturated the isomerised co/humulone regardless of the efficiency hit from the bag.

Would you make this again Chris?  I might make a batch this weekend.

Chris Craig

Yeah, I would.  Make sure you pitch enough yeast though.  2 packs.  There are a lot of resins in the beer.  Can't drink too many or you'll wake up the next morning with a sweater on your tongue.

Personal experience regarding the IIPA cottonmouth effect: drink a little fruit juice before bed, then some water. Water alone does very little to help.
