Yeah,
Like I said earlier, one of the very few things I miss about living in the centre of the universe was the $20 fills, which quickly became $20 swap outs, of course I did have to drive half way to hell and back to get them, and yup there really is only one real CO2 place in all of the GTA.
When I first got here I damn near passed out when they said $55 with straight face.
I have in the past tried a little group buy conversation, but unfortunately it's one of the toughest things to get people united on, since most of the tanks are rented in some fashion, and the early discussions were pretty unproductive, because even if we all got on board, and then we all went through a couple of tanks a year, it doesn't amount to a hill of beans compared to the fire extinguisher biz, or any other gas user, so I don't think there's enough volume to make it worth getting into it just yet, or possibly ever.
Having said that...I think I'll start a Gas Log for anyone who wants to join in, to put their tank situation, update the fills, and lease expiry dates etc, so that if we see another opportunity to take a shot at a group buy, we'd have some hard data.

Yeah, none of my tanks are rented/leased...purchased em all used off kijiji....mind you some of them are older and out of hydro, but they were all full. When i start to get low, i'll think about getting them tested again and filled, but i think i'll take them to hali instead of paying the $50 for testing here plus a $75 fill.....FAWK THAT!!! can buy a brand new tank for that price.

DandyMason

Yeah I had no idea what a good price for filling it was. It was my first time filling.. so i didnt think too much about the 75 bucks... Ill have to fill it next time im in Halifax... Save myself 50 bucks. Good to know!

I suggest calling for up to date pricing in case its changed.

Yep, they're nice guys and all over in the Industrial Park there but it's a slap in the face to pay that price for CO2 around here.
I know brew mentioned this many times that he knows Kennedy in Oromocto... I own tanks and I would jump in on a group deal.

Yeah, that's who I briefly talked with, but the feeling I got wasn't as enthusiastic as I'd hoped, though he was willing to talk about it. His base pricing is basically within $5 of everyone else. After running a small discussion, there wasn't enough volume to go to him with any realistic proposal, so it died there.

I just started a new thread in the group buy section, for people to log their tank and fill info.  If we track it for a while, then we'll likely have a decent amount of data collected so that we can approach all the suppliers and ask them to quote.

Sorry to revive an old topic. I'm wondering if anyone knows a good spot in the Moncton area to get a 10lb. tank filled? Preferably somewhere that I can get it filled on the spot and don't have to leave it for a few days.

Do they require a contract?

Kegged: air.
Primary: air.
Bulk Aging: Silence of the Lambics (Pitched 13/05/2012).
Owed: JQ LSA x 1, Kyle Stout x 1 & IPA x 1.

jeffsmith

Thanks folks. Might give Praxair a try as I've heard they fill on site (I believe AL requires you to leave the tank) and don't require a contract. Rumour of course, so could be completely wrong.

chrismccull

If you give Air Liquide a tank in Fredericton, they keep the tank and send it to Moncton.  Chances are, they could fill them on-site in Moncton if we were in town.

fakr

Jeff, if you're in Moncton, go to Brunswick fyr & safety and ask for Serge.  Tell him Joe  G sent you.  He was my roomate from way back.  Good guy.
He'll be able to hook you up.

Thanks! They were on my list to call, but perhaps I'll just drop in tomorrow.

yeah, just drop in with your cylinder (no regulator), and Serge will take care of it for you.  If it's old, it might need a hydro test before they fill it, but they do that on site as well.
