The All-Grain forum has been split into the 23 main categories according to the BJCP. The purpose for this was to make finding a recipe for a certain style easier to do.

Please use the sub forums when posting new recipes.  If you're unsure where your recipes should go, just browse the BJCP, or just post in the All-Grain forum.  We'll move it when we figure out what it is.

A couple of things to consider when classifying your recipe.

  • If your beer contains fruit, it's a fruit beer and belongs in the "20. Fruit Beer" forum.  If you submitted an apricot wheat in category 6D - American Wheat or Rye Beer in an official BJCP competition, it would be judged out of style.
  • If your beer contains honey, molasses, maple syrup, or any other unusual fermentable, it belongs in the "23. Specialty Beer" category. Examples are Honey Brown Ale, Maple Cream Ale, etc...
  • If your beer is a combination of styles, or an exaggeration of a style, it belongs in the "23. Speciality Beer" category.  Examples would be Rye IPA, Hoppy Porter, Dark American Wheat, etc...
  • Unless it's a Belgian, if your beer contains any spices, coffee, or other non-fruit flavouring, it belongs in the "21. Spice, Herb, and Vegetable Beer" category. For example, Spiced Winter Warmers, Christmas Beers, American Wheat (if it has corriander), etc...
  • If you are making a "Light Summer Ale", chances are, it belongs in the "6. Light Hybrid Beer" category which includes Blonde Ale, Kolsch, American Wheat/Rye, and Cream Ale.

There are sub-categories for all of the main BJCP categories.  These will be mentioned and described in each forum, but until we build up enough recipes to require breaking up the categories into sub-categories, we'll leave them all together.
