I'm creating a Wit beer recipe in Beer Smith, and getting caught up in the estimated OG calculated by BeerSmith...

The recipes I've seen have had a grain bill of 11kg or so for a 5gal batch, but if I get anywhere near that, BeerSmith shows me an estimated OG of 1.107.  Is this a problem with my equipment profile, or am I missing something else?  When I adjust the OG to 1.052 or so, it brings the grain down to about 2.2kg each of 2 row and wheat.  That seems like it's not going to be enough.

Any insight from someone who's brewed Wit's?

Thanks!

2.2 kg each of 2 row and whoa sound about right for a 5 gallon batch.

From brewing classic styles, all grain option for witbier

""All-Grain Option
Delete the 1 lb. (0.45kg) of Pilsener malt in the recipe. Replace the wheat extract and the Munich extract with 5.5 lbs. (2.49kg) continental Pilsener malt, 5 lbs. (2.26kg) flaked wheat, and 0.25 lb. (113g) Munich malt. Add 0.5 lb. (227g) of rice hulls or similar filtering aid. Mash at 122° F (50° C) for 15 minutes, then raise the temperature over the next 15 minutes to 154° F (68° C) and hold until conversion is complete. Increase the pre-boil volume as needed to allow a 90-minute boil, which will help reduce DMS in the beer."

Thanks Reid.

I think I just realized what my problem is!  I should learn the difference between lbs and kgs...

Maybe it's too early to start brewing today.  First, a 2nd cup of coffee.  Then I may be able to measure out some grain.

Yeah, most recipes are in lbs but I am a metric guy.  Happens to the best of us
