Brewed this today. It's a "clone" of Maui Brewing Company Coconut Porter. I used raw flaked coconut for this and toasted it in the oven prior to brewing to get some color and add flavor.

Almost forgot. If anyone does try to brew this I recommend using a muslin bag to add the flame out addition of coconut. Transferring this to a carboy was a bitch.

@Two Wheeler the wort was really tasty, the coconut was coming through nicely. I assume some of that will get fermented out but the "dry hop" addition of more toasted coconut should bring it back.

Just curious, what type of equipment do you have for the transfer to the carboy? A bazooka screen?

I wasn't using a screen at all in my brew kettle. Simply a 90 degree elbow as a pickup. The coconut kept clogging it. The flakes I used are quite large.

I'll bring some to a meeting as soon as it's finished.

Don't really mean to bring this back to the top, but seems interesting.

How was it? Would you change anything doing it again?

The 1lb of coconut at 0min....how long did you leave it to steep?

I enjoyed it quite a bit. I don't think the coconut in the mash is necessary. I didn't steep the 0min addition, though a 15min steep wouldn't be a bad idea.

ECH

Not steeped? So you put it in a 0min and took it back out? LOL.

So basically put the bag in at 0 mins, and left it in for the length of time it took you to cool it and pour off into the fermenter.

I just added the coconut at flame out and chilled. Didn't take it out.
