Stock Pots on Sale
« on: February 01, 2013, 03:52:06 PM »
I went to Davidson's Restaurant Equipment to look for a 15 gal. heavy duty stock pot to convert into a brew kettle and found and aluminum one that is on for $82.49 from $153.  The quality looked good to me, and the price was excellent.  They also have the 20 gal. version on for $95.79, I am not sure on the regular price, but, it would obviously be more than $153.

Check them out if you are in the market.

I had an aluminium pot when I started out...the pot kept going white and pasty on me....I'd stick with SS.

If I don't like it, I can use it for an HLT, no worries.

I used mine as a hot water tank.  Maybe if you drain all the water and dry it out each time it would be fine.

If you do a boil in it with hard water before using it the first time it should get an aluminum oxide layer on it (dark gray) and then it should be fine from then on out. I use aluminum for my boilpot and my beers turn out fine :).

The white crap is fine - just make sure you clean off any excess with a cloth (no soap, no abrasives, just hot water) and dry the thing thoroughly after use.
