Interesting! I wonder if it's better than one of those orange carboy caps. With a racking cane in the center hole and co2 attached to the other that's what I use anyways.

'Basically' time same thing as this as well: http://www.morebeer.com/products/sterile-siphon-starter-3-5-6-65-gallon-carboy-smooth-necks.html?a_aid=billybrew?a_aid=billybrew

It is a cool toy though... I like cool toys

pretty much the same idea yeah.  the one in my link has a metal cane so I could use it for sours too.  also the stopper is smaller so I could also use it in my 1 gallon batch (which are a pita to rack off)

I've used both kinds.

The plastic one is cheap and works well for most things. It's also really easy to build with locally available parts. If do you clog it with a stray bit of yeast or hop, it has to be back flushed though. Also, only minimal pressures are usable due both to the construction of the thing and to the carboy itself. After many uses, I wanted something more rigid as it was fragile and a PITA to clean thoroughly.

The metal ones are easier to clean in place, and they enable greater pressures, which can be useful if you are fermenting in a keg.

honestly, either is good.

Ah! I see that makes sense. You could probably get away with using a double hole bung with a SS racking cane in one hole and a double ended hose barb in the other hole. (Does that sound kinda dirty to you?)
