Corny Keg

Hello,

I just stumbled upon this website looking for what i need to start a keg setup. I've checked Kijiji Moncton and there is only 1 person selling which i'm not sure if they have any or not.

you guys know any good place to buy them? Also whats a fair price now-a-days? I see some were selling for $35.

Welcome to the forum rybreww!  We used to have a pretty sweet source here.  About $20/keg a couple of years ago.  Since then, it's been going up and up.  The last bulk order we did, they cost us $40 each.  If you can get them for $35, then you're going pretty good.

Someone said they would sell them to me for 50 each.  Is that fair? 


I have no other equipment,  would it be smarter to buy a full keg kit from Ontario keg brewer that comes with everything or buy the 2 used kegs and find equipment separately.

OBK sells their kits with and without kegs, so it's really up to you.  I don't know if you want to do pin or ball lock kegs, but Everwood Ave Brew Shop in Halifax sells 2 pin locks for $84.99: https://www.everwoodavebrewshop.com/product/pin-lock-keg_2/

If it were me, I'd pay what I had to for my first couple of kegs and just keep an eye out for a deal for the rest.

That's what I'm thinking as well, i usually buy things separately with other things as well to save money to I'll do the same with this.

Some ppl were saying the main differences between pin lock and ball lock are pin locks often do not have PRV (pressure release valves i assume?), and are shorter and wider. that's what everwood dave sells.

Otherwise i can get the ball lock locally for the $50 each. What would you do? Thanks!

Honestly, if it were me, I'd just buy the ball-lock kegs you have access to.  Just make sure they hold pressure.

I would suggest sticking with ball lock kegs even if they are a couple $ more.  Pretty much everyone here uses ball locks so all our equipment have ball lock fittings...so if you wanted to bring a keg to a meeting, or borrow one of the club jockey boxes, it would be a bit of a pain to have to convert each time.

Thanks for the replies. As per the last 2 comments that's what i was thinking.

Now i just have to figure out what else i need and where to source the parts as cheap as possible by buying them seperately vs the keg kits minute the kegs. Also need to find a cheap mini fridge that can hold 2 pepsi kegs and possible the co2 tank.

If you have the room, I suggest scouring Kijiji for a free full-size fridge.  You can fit 4+ kegs in them, and you'll have the freezer for hops and such.  Also, you won't have to buy a tower for your taps (which should be Perlicks...you'll regret it otherwise).

You should consider coming to out big brew day this Saturday.  There'll be a lot of us there.  You may be able to score some parts, or get some info that will help you out with your setup.

I have many friends who bought the stainless steel mini fridge from Costco here in Moncton.   When you take the door skin out, you can fit 2 corny kegs and a 5lb CO2 tank with the door closed.

At $159, you'll not find a better deal....
