How many packs of yeast?
« on: November 22, 2011, 10:02:55 AM »
So I may have just ordered a new propane stand, along with a 50L brewpot. I'm looking to do some 10 gallon batches of lighter beer for my pussy friends, say around 3.5 to 4ish percent.

If I'm using dry yeast, do you think I'll need more than one pack of SO4 or 5? How do I determine this?

Well I'd say 1 pack per fermenting vessel.  At the lower gravity you might get away with less, but I would make a starter and split that.

By the volume and OG - there's a pitching calculator here:

http://www.mrmalty.com/calc/calc.html

Put in the OG, Volume, and the date on teh package of yeast. Flip to the Dry Yeast tab and it'll tell you how many 11.5g packets you need.

I picked up one of those SS pots from home hardware. On order right now, should be arriving next week. I want to do some 10 gallon batches of lighter, less flavourful beer for when the friends come over; when you're drinking a couple gallons in a night, 5 gallon batches just aint cutting it.

Picked up a new propane stand, along with a new 70qt Coleman extreme cooler.

Very Nice, I have that same brew pot and cooler...

Also thinking about a propane stand... 10 gallons has crossed my mind also.

Yeah that definitely looks decent... Figure I will be going to propane fairly soon. Especially with the cheap propane at costco

both pot and stand were $69 each. I got the last stand in stock, and the pot should arrive next week at some point. I'm doing my first batch on propane as I post this; only 5 gallons though tonight

Pushin it, but close. Those kegs are more like 19 liters, So if I get 18 liters in each of them I'd be happy. So with the boil and evap, it's going to need to be just a couple inches below the brim
