Hi - First Post!
« on: November 30, 2017, 06:20:15 PM »
Hello and thanks for reading!

I'm living in Norway for a year, returning to Fredericton in July!

I'm interested in studying beer fermentation to see if I can optimize any steps.

I'm also looking for other recipe software that knocks your socks off, I like brewers friend the most, when compared to beersmith2.

Welcome!

I read Larsblog and beer history and beer styles from that part of europe always really fascinate me. Are there any unique local beers you've tried that really stick out?

I just use beersmith myself. I tried the free parts of brewers friend years ago but I haven't tried it since.

Welcome to the club!

I started all grain brewing using "BrewMate" but switched to BeerSmith shortly after and haven't looked back since. It gets my vote

I've managed to replicate my favorite Norwegian beer with this recipe https://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/recipe/view/546593/norwegian-wood-small-batch
I'm also having good fun exploring saison's and porters.
This past weekend I was lucky to attend a JuleOl festival, with 28 Christmas beers being tasted.   The best were
Haandbryggeriet Fat store Nissemor, and
Renaissance Abundance Baltic Cherry Porter

Thanks for your link!

That is a lot of smoked malt! How much of the juniper and yeast came through with that much smoked malt?

The juniper is subtle, as it was used as a means to sanitize and clean equipment traditionally.  It does come through.  The yeast, I'm not sure what strain it is, so I'm unsure what it's bringing to the beer.  I will say that it is delicious, and the folks that have tasted it so far agree, at least when I'm present.

On a separate note, the recipe that I shared is what I meant to brew, but I goofed when I placed the grain order, which was ground and mixed for pickup, ordering 1 Kg of each grain!   This might explain why it doesn't seem overpowering at all and is a delight. This link points to the 1 Kg version https://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/recipe/view/552700/norwegian-wood-1kg-version  I had been meaning to correct my mistake and try the intended version I shared, originally.

Cheers

Often wondered that as well, only thing in the top right corner of the posts on mine is the "quote" button.
