Title: First post - beer enthusiast in Fredericton
Post by: Cuba on August 31, 2014, 06:12:01 PM
Hello everyone,

I am an amateur brewer looking for access to better products and advice on brewing beer in New Brunswick.

I was once told of a brewers club that has monthly meetings, private grain/hop purchases and an annual fee. I'm not sure if I have found the right place, please point me in the right direction.

I currently on have extract brews under my belt; however, early today I made my first extract/hops IPA. I am very interested in going to all mash and not extract but currently don't have the space for a mash tun, etc.

I am looking for somewhere to buy good quality grains, hops and malts. Especially if anything is local from New Brunswick or the maritimes.

Anyways I hope I'm in the right place, any help is appreciated.

Welcome to the club! I believe We are really close to putting in our grain group buy order, and you can purchase full sacks or tenths of sacks and it's a great way to save money and always have grain on hand to brew when you want!

This post should detail the club membership info for you

I do BIAB (brew In a Bag) since space is limited. I can easily do all grain and get 75% efficiency by mashing in my kettle. So, this may be a good starting point for you! Most people here made the jump straight to a mash tun set up though, and everyone is happy to discuss what works and doesn't work for them.

The bi-weekly meetings are great opportunities to meet the other club members, talk about process and sample some tasty beer!

Welcome! I'm a newbie to all grain brewing and the guys in the club have been a great help to me. Like @Two Wheeler (http://nbcba.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=2007) has said already if you need grain the club order is the cheapest route to go.

Awesome. A few quick questions as I'm having a bit of a hard time finding the answers on the forum.

When is the next meeting and where?

When is the next grain order and where are the order sheets?

And finally, if I paid my membership fee today would I be able to get in on the next order?

Thanks in advance! Looking forward to joining and making good beer.

Meeting info, club orders etc are in the member's only section of the forum. The next meeting is should be Sept 13th, and the location will be decided closer to the date.

@Jake (http://nbcba.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=243) will be able to chime in with group buy info

@cuba not sure if you're aware  but there's some great software called BeerSmith that will help you out tremendously. The cheapest place to buy is on OBK.

OK perfect I'll pay the membership fee when I get to my laptop tonight.

And I'll definitely have to check that Beersmith software you mentioned @robcoombs (http://nbcba.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=2012); I've never heard of it.

Welcome! Actually the grain order just filled this weekend so it will likely be a few months until the next one. There are usually people in the club who can help out though, especially with the specialty grains...

Thanks for all the help so far guys, I have just paid my membership fee. I assume it might take a little while to register before I can get into the "members only" section of the forum.

I am looking forward to attending the next meeting!

I just re-joined the club after being in Calgary for the past 1.5 years.  I would like to get in on the next grain order.  How do I go about doing this?

Thanks,

Jimmy
