This just came up on my FB feed http://www.ontariobeerkegs.com/mobile/product.aspx?ProductCode=plk%2Dno%2Dprv%2D4%2Dpack%2Duntested
$100 for 4
Seems like a good deal, thoughts

Not bad at all by todays keg prices ... problem is that you don't want to mix and match pin and ball lock. It becomes a royal pain in the ass. It would be interesting to see what shipping would be. I'd think it'd be pretty steep for a package of that girth

$38 for shipping. $151 total to NB. Why does everyone have ball lock? Is there an advantage?
-
take note that is says No Pressure Relief
-
There's no real advantage from one to the other.
As to why most people around here have ball locks is a bit of a geographic thing in my opinion. There are many folks in the Halifax area that have pin locks because there used to be a Coca Cola plant (or distributor) there and its a bit easier to source pin locks.
Around here, there have been Pepsi plants and distributors. That's why alot of folks have pepsi kegs.
Same in the US; folks in the south mainly have pin locks because Coke is in Atlanta. Folks in the midwest have ball locks.
This is simply one theory.

Not a bad deal at all if it's 10 bucks each approximately for shipping.
Seems like a valid theory to me too Pliny!
So if these kegs have no pressure relief valves on them, are you not able to purge the O2 in the headspace?
-
Just disconnect the CO2 and use a screw driver or key to press on the poppet of the CO2 in.

Pretty much. It's a pain in the ass, although you can get the pressure release valves if you want to drill the lid and install one yourself.
It's worth noting that Pin-lock kegs are taller and narrower than Ball-lock kegs, and the pin-lock disconnects are taller as well.

Thankd for all the info. I think ill keep watching for a good price on ball locks with pressure relief.

Pin locks are actually shorter and wider than ball locks.

I just bought two ball lock today while I was in Moncton from the kijiji guy thats always listing them. He puts all new seals in them. (so he says) They are in good shape but 50 a piece. He tells me that used ball locks are getting harder to find as Pepsi started puncturing their kegs when scraping them. Don't know whether its true or not.

I think he may be the guy we used to buy bulk from. A couple of years ago we were getting them for $20 each!
-
Yeah thats quite possible Chris, he said that him and his brother bought an entire trailer load of 5000 a few years ago.
