Amylase enzyme

Does any one have a teaspoon of amylase enzyme to spare or know a source?? I've got a batch of dry beer going and I need the enzyme at the 14 day mark to blast out the secondary, cheers,

Do they sell "beano" (anti-gas) tablets over here? Supposedly they have the same effect, or so I've read.

The brew community distinguishes between Beano which is alpha galactosidase, and the amylase beta that we want to burn of the last,  hard to reach, sugars in a fermentation
Still looking for a source although the alpha is apparently made in truck loads....great to be retired and able to spend a morning delving into flatulance  :lol:

Ok....so it would appear I have a bottle of Amylase Enzyme although I think it was purchased perhaps before I was born or may be slightly after?  (maybe its not that old but it certainly isn't new).

I can bring some to the next meeting (which I will attend for more that 5 mins Richard).

Thanks, I'd like that. I have to add it into the secondary, which will be a keg so that should be "lively"
I don't need it for about 2 weeks so hopefully the next meeting should do the trick. Is there any activity afoot to set a time and place for that meeting.....I'll be keen to host, when I get some brew out of fermentation. Where do you live Brian?

Have you tried using the amylase extract in a batch of beer? I've followed some of the related threads on HBT and I'd like to try a hit in some lite beer I'm making for my wife. I put a post on HBT along that line and got a response from West Virginia (!) saying amylase was found in spit, and if I was trying to clone Miller Lite, etc etc. I refrained from asking him if he was going out for Hallowe'en this year or just staying home to "pumpkin"  ..... :lol: I'll get a bit from you at the meeting if that's ok. cheers,

Interestingly enough it is found in spit (check out Peruvian Cheecha...spelling?) It basically involves chewing kerneled corn and spitting it into a bucket and then pitching yeast as the spit does the starch conversion.  Not my thing.

What kind of light beer are you looking for?  I just did a Scottish 60/ (no adjuncts) that came in at 2.6 ABV (assuming bitters are your thing) and I've also done a number of brews using corn and rice which made for a nice lawn mower beer.

Could you give me the recipe for that Scottish 60? ...and can you imagine trying to come up with a "punny" name for the cheecha?? I don't think even Richard could handle that...
