Well, I ended up carving up my coleman Xtreme 50QT cooler into a mash tun.

If I could figure out how to post pics, I would....

Just a quick FYI - don't splash the wort from the mash-tun into the boil pot, make sure you run a hose from the mash tun to the bottom of the boil pot to minimise aeration. Hot-side aeration is a bitch to remove once it's in there (weird sherry-like flavours arise as the beer matures; only way to get rid of them is with some hardcore fining agents or a long-ass time cold-conditioning).

ok, thanks for the pointer.  any specific hose type?  it has to be heat resistant so I'm thinking teflon?

Silicone works well. TBH I didn't realise teflon was more than a coating for frying pans :lol:

fakr: I found some teflon tubing alongside silicone stuff; it does exist, that wasn't me being flippant :P

by the way, home hardware has 50L SS pots for 69.99.  A little bit off topic, but thought I'll share...and I suppose you could use one as a mash tun as well.

keep in mind SS pots as mash tun are great but you have to watch them and adjust your temps alot but with a cooler set it and forget it !!! just my 2 cents a walmart special will only lose 1 degree over a span of an hour
