I was thinking of getting a fermentation chamber, but...

Interesting results... I know I've made some questionable beer before I build a ferm. chamber. But I think it was mostly in the summer when it was like 30°C. I find it's easier to get a reasonable temperature the rest of the year. Also temperature consistency probably makes the biggest difference for most brewing.
Another nice thing about the chamber is that I can cold crash after it's done fermenting without moving the carboys around.

I noticed a very considerable improvement in my beer when I built one.

I think when you REALLY start to get into issues is when you're in the 70s and 80s. I've certainly tasted beers that were fermented much too warm before.

That being said, it's not a necessity... Rob and Pierre make great beers year round and I believe neither has a dedicated chamber

Correct, I would like to get one at some point. But so far I've been able to keep my temps at 70F or below...for the most part.

Very interesting read and a little surprising.  I could have swore I noticed a difference in fermenting S-05 at 16C liquid temp vs 22C.

Regardless, a ferm chamber will let you brew ales and lagers all year round...and allow cold crashing like Roger mentioned.
