So, I went to use my pump today only to find out that my 12 power adapter was broken.  No pump means no beer.

Does anybody have a 12V DC 1.25A adapter I can buy, or know where I can get one tomorrow?  I'd really like to brew this weekend.  I'm just about out of beer!!

I have a multiple voltage adapter, but, the amperage is only 300 mA.

Chris Craig

I'm a bit out of my depth. I'm not sure if it has to be the same.

Doubt it would work, but, you are welcome to try it.

I have a 4A that you can borrow if you like.

the 300 milli won't work - the 4A will (assuming the connector is the same).

No connector.  I cut the end off and wired it into a switch.  It got damaged at the shit show at Colin's last month.  I found a replacement on eBay for < $3, but it'll likely take 3 weeks to get here.

Richard

Kinda takes borrowing out of the picture unless it's a bench PSU :)

Computer PSU would supply the necessary power, but I wouldn't recommend having one anywhere near a brew day :P

I went and checked out the PS, there is a 12V 1A, and  an old (1985) vintage PS that looks like it was removed from some old electronics 12V 3A, not a sealed unit.

Hmmm.  So, is there a risk using a 3A PS when I was previously using the 1.15A PS that came with the pump?  The last thing I want to do is damage the greatbreweh pump and have to buy a chugger.  What a shame that would be.

DandyMason

You can always borrow my great brew eh pump and order from ebay if that helps

Kyle

you want to match the voltage, but as long as the amperage output of the plug is equal to or higher than the draw, you will be fine. The only current that will be drawn is dependent on the load, rather than the supply. Think of it this way, a standard household outlet is 15 amps, but to plug your cell phone charger in, you are only drawing a tiny fraction of that.

Makes sense.  It's been so long since I studied this stuff in school.  Thanks guys!
