HI guys i found this forum from an ad on kijiji and this is exactly what i've been looking for.  A little about myself name is Ian Grant i live in Nackawic i started making wine and beer from kits last year.   I've watched alot of videos on youtube about brewing and alot are saying all grain is the way to go.   I've found the can kits are soso  some good some not so good and i want to get into all grain but don't want to buy all the equipment and find out it's not as good as i hoped.    I would like to join this club and learn everything i can about the Brewing Arts.

We have a meeting coming up on Saturday in Fredericton that you are welcome to come to.

All grain really is great, but we can also show you how to do intermediate brewing using malt extract and steeping grains that will be way better than your basic kit, with minimal investment of time/money.

I'd only make the step to AG if you've ironed out your cold side technique, however a transition to steeping grains and hopping is an excellent run-up to starting AG on the hot side if you've not done it already. Kit + Kilo sets (tins of concentrated hopped extract) never seem to produce particularly good beer, and tend to carry with them the tastes that people associate with "homebrew". I've produced some excellent beer with a full-boil extract method...

All you'd need on top of your current setup is a large (8gal or more) boil pot, and some hop/grain bags. This assumes you have access to a stove which can put out the necessary heat.

What time is the meeting i'll have to run it by the wife first of course been working alot lately and you know women, they need there time.   I guess the biggest thing holding be back from AG is that i'm not sure where to order the grain and hops that i'll need or the best/cheapest place to get it.   I would really like to see some of your setups.  If i can make good beer i don't care about the costs cause it'll pay off in the long run.

Grain's hard to order. You can get batches of grain from noble grape in Dartmouth, but it's expensive compared to the bulk orders Dave and the rest get going here.

I think the current order's locked, but the pace seems to be every 3-4 months or so I think. So if you get interested in AG, you've got a bit of time to familiarize yourself with it first.

Of course this all depends on where you live. I live in Nfld and sometimes get grain among other things shipped to me from Noble Grape in Halifax ( cost free, but that's another story ) so the price is somewhat cheaper than I can get locally.
