I have been lurking here for about a month now and I have been thinking about getting into home brewing.  I have purchased and read section 1 of John Palmers book: How to Brew.  I'd like to start out with a malt extract kit for my 1st couple attempts.

I realize this club is Fredericton centered.  Does anyone know if there are any decent shops in Saint John to get supplies?  Is there a club similar to FCBA in the SJ area?  I was toying with the idea of joining FCBA, but I'm not sure how many meeting I'd make it up to (especially in the winter) as it is a 1.5 hr drive.

I live in St George and work in SJ, so I kinda know your plight.

Barley malt & vine's your best bet for keg and carboy supplies. getting yeast and grain though, best bet is freddy for the yeast, get in on the orders for grain that FCBA do or order from noble grape in Halifax. I've contacted the Big Tide Brewery about getting in emergency supplies if needed, and the brewmaster theres been kind about it and said she'd see what she could do.

Welcome to the site.

like already said, Noble Grape in Halifax is good, they'll ship to you either canada post or bus for the heavier stuff like grains. But Barley malt and vine on city rd.(i think?)  is pretty good for stuff.

"Brewing Classic Styles" is a great companion to that book (also by Palmer, with Zainasheff) - it has 80 supposedly award-winning extract recipes.

We're happy to be a home for brewers further afield; if you do find another brewclub be sure to let them know that CraftBrewing.ca has an open invitation for them to be hosted here also. We're always looking to encourage greater cooperation between brew-clubs.
