We've made 3 changes to the forums this morning.

  • We've moved the View Unread Topics link to the main menu bar.  It's labeled Unread Posts.  This makes it accessible from anywhere.
  • We've installed a mod that allows Facebook-like Like functionality.  You'll see a Like button with each post.  It'll replace the +1 posts that we have right now.
  • We've installed a mod that shows an activity stream.  It updates every 5 seconds without a page refresh to show you when something new happens.

Let us know what you think of the updates!

Richard

There any way to remove the activity stream/shoutbox for your account? Every time I switch between machines (I'm a nomad in my own house when I work) they maximise again.

No, but I just did a test.  I logged in on 2 machines, collapsed that panel on both, logged out and then back in.  They stay collapsed.

Richard

Not what I meant, i.e. storing the preferences with the account in the DB, rather than in a cookie. Yes, the settings remain for one machine, since it's in a cookie. I meant when I log into a different machine where the cookie has not been set.

Yeah, that's not going to happen, unfortunately.

Richard

Ah well - wouldn't be such a pain if I didn't delete cache/cookies etc on such a regular basis - I might start using incognito mode and similar for site testing in future so I don't have to keep clearing things.

Ahh, yeah.  That would be a right pain in the arse, that!

Richard: why not use profile support? It works rather well for such things :P
