Welcome Forum / Another Newbie!
Last post by rjdaddio - January 21, 2021, 08:54:53 AM
I am brand new to home brewing, just finished my very first batch of cider and currently waiting to see how it turns out, I have a little over a week to go until the official taste testing when in bottle carbonation finishes. Excited to see where this new hobby takes me and glad to see all the excitement on this forum. Can't wait to try making some wine and mead as well.

I'm hoping so.  I spent a little on gear over the holidays.  In addition to the Solo, I added a 3 Roller Monster Mill and a Blichmann Riptide.  I'm ordering a pressurized transfer system today so I can move fermented beer from the conical to the kegs without exposing it to air and risking oxidation.

I'm using 20201 to taking home brewing serious again.

Ok, so 4 of us is a bit more than a coincidence.  I'm going to say OiO had a quality control issue.

Also it appears we are not the only ones to notice:

I'm recording the IDs of the bags and will see if I can contact some at OiO.

Nice! That's a fancy looking rig. You'll be happy with that for sure.

Same to you! We only had to leave the property twice, so I count that as a win.

So, after much procrastinating I just went ahead and ordered the Spike Solo 20 gallons 240 system.  Looking forward to get brewing on it, and this should definitely cut down on my time when it comes to heating and cleaning up.

I think you may be on to something Brian. My efficiency with grain from that order was lower than usual as well. Weird.

Edit: the 2-row specifically

I noticed a drop as well. Not quite as bad as yours. Expecting 1.056 and ended up with 1.050. Considering I've never had a problem meeting or getting close to my target. I was blaming it on my mash temperature dropping a little lower than I wanted. (Not paying attention) The ale finished at 1.010 and was expecting 1.012 so I wasn't complaining. Again I was blaming myself and not the grain.
Good to know about the grain.
