Title: Hop harvest 2020
Post by: Roger on October 02, 2020, 04:37:10 PM
How did you fellow hop growers make out this year?
I ended up with 1lb Hersbrucker, 2lbs of cascade and about 1/2 oz lupulin powder left behind after drying. I might use the powder to dry hop a pale ale...

Not a bad result

I just finished packaging mine up. Didn't have a chance to weigh them but I'd guess I got a pound of centennial and two pounds of cascade. I was too slow for the hersbrucker and they were too brown on the bine for my liking (should have picked them early September).

The cones were nice and big this year, probably because of my watering setup. Lots of aphids though, so I'll have to do something about that next year.

My hersbrucker are always ready about 2 weeks before my cascades. I like it because I have the opportunity to dry and package them before the cascade is ready.

After drying, I got a measly ~4oz, mainly Cascade and a bit of Chinook. Worst harvest ever. Hopefully they are just taking a year off, lol.

Yeah it was a really dry summer this year. I put down a good thick layer of mulch, used some compost tea once buds started and watered very regularly almost evey day...

I did none of those things, lol. They evidently would benefit from some pampering next year.
