Fresh Hop, Dry Hopping
« on: September 13, 2014, 12:59:17 PM »
OK, I have 1st year plants, have one Chinook that has about 7 cones on it. What to do with them?

Making a Belgian Pale Ale this weekend, and was thinking of either using the cones in the last 5mins of the boil, or, putting them in the secondary after fermentation, basically dry hopping with fresh hops.

In the end, 7 cones likely isn't going to make much, if any difference either way, but just thought I would run the idea past you guys to see what you think.

More or less just want to use them, rather than chuck them out.

Anyone dry hopped with fresh hops?

For 7 cones it wouldn't matter where you used them you won't detect any flavour. By all means use them though you grew them don't waste them. If you want more vines next year though burry the vines don't cut them off they'll turn into more rhizomes for next year.

Yes, that's the plan.

How much do you bury? Some of mine are 15ft....I assume you don't bury it all! LOL

Was thinking like 2-4ft of the plant?
