Hey all, I'm curious as to which (if any) rhizomes people bought this year? I've picked up Centannial, US Golding and Mt Hood.
We'll see how they do.
On this same note who is pruning plants this spring (and giving away rhizomes)? I'll have Cascade, Nugget and Willamett to give away.

Oh cool! Can I get a Nugget rhizome from you?
-
I'd like some nugget. nothing this year, but I expect next year I will have the following to share: cascade, willamette, centennial, chinook
-
Sweet, I'll most likely do what i did last year and bring all my rhizomes to a meeting and poeple can take what they want. I'll keep everyone posted.

Excellent, I plan to plant some this year :-)
-
I may steal a few rhizomes from people this year, i dont think my plants survived sitting on the deck in plastic pots over the winter.
-
I would love to get into planting some... Any good sources to learn how to do it?
-
I'll see how my Miramichi hop-garden is doing... I suspect I won't be cropping rhizomes this year though.

I was going to order some rhizomes from hopsdirect, but they wont ship to Canada. You still got some rhizomes to give away Brian?
-
yeah, there are import limitations on hops when you buy them as an individual. However, if you order through a Canadian broker, you can get ones which originated in the US. Crannog ales has a good selection:

Try richies.com or .ca. They sell the plants. I got mine from them. It's. richters.com/

Does anyone have any palisade rhizomes? :D

I do as I haven't gotten around to root pruning yet. I'll update with quantities.
As for those still looking to buy you can try http://www.crannogales.com/site/rhizomes.php (http://www.crannogales.com/site/rhizomes.php) but its getting late.

looks like they are fully sold out now!

After Last year's unmitigated disaster, resulting in the following survivors...
2 Cascade, 0 Centennial, 1 Fuggle, 2 Magnum, 2 Nugget and 1 Willamette out of 36 planted.
I ordered the following...
2 Cascade, 3 Fuggle, 2 Nugget, 3 Willamette, 2 Chinook and 2 Galena.
Rebecca has also put me on the list for some Centennial and Magnum if they get more than anticipated.
Gonna start in pots this year, which is what we ended up reverting to during the Monsoons of April and May last year, then transfer to the ground afterwards.

hops in pots ftw! Mine were all grown in 4 gal pots last year using 50/50 coconut potting soil and organic compost. I planted them early May, and kept them inside until early June sometime (whenever the last frost warning was). By keeping careful attention to watering, and giving them timed additions of Miracle Grow, I managed to get ~1/2 lb of wet cones from each of my first year plants.
After moving the pots inside last week (they were overwintering on the deck) one of them has already shot up 10-14 shoots, some of which are almost 4-6 inches high already!

OK, so I pruned my Cascade, Nugget and Willametts last weekend and will be sending a grab bag to the AGM for anyone interested. Call it a perk of being a member.
For anyone who talked to me directly please let me know if you don't get what you wanted at the AGM and I can prune the little buggers a bit more.
Merry hopmas to one and all.

Brian... awesome... I will take whatever I can get :-) Thank you!
-
thats awesome man! I will likely steal at least one rhizome.
-
Brian that's fantastic! We need to get you a red suit and a wool hat....
Hoping there's a spare nugget in the goodie bag...
-
Bloody good job Brian, thanks :)
-
Thanks!
-
Crap x 3! Brian was suppoed to send me up with the rhizomes and we both forgot...he brought them to work and they are still there in the fridge. There is a good chance i'll be coming up again next weekend and if so i'll bring them up with me.
Sorry guys
-
If there are any spare (I understand I may have totally missed the boat) I would be very interested in getting a couple of whatever going. Are they all spoken for?
-
I should have posted this a month or so ago, but in case it is of interest to anybody here goes....
*** U-cut hops rhizomes, FOR SALE OR TRADE for S-189 yeast, good beer, $$$, etc...
I am located in Keswick Ridge; my hopyard is in a sad state of neglect but I have several varieties (incl Galena, Fuggles, EKG, Willamette, Cascade) which should provide extremely healthy and vigourous cuttings. No reasonable offers refused! Please contact me by email dmc@danielchisholm.com
-
daniel: how much you want per rhizome? :)... I wouldn't mind a rhizome or two of each of these :).

Like I said, no reasonable offer refused (though if you offer too much I do reserve the right to dicker downwards). I have them here, and if somebody wants to give them a good home, I am happy to accommodate. Email me and we can set up a phone call or a day/time for you to come out here and dig up some rhizomes.
-
I emailed you Daniel, I'm definitely interested in giving some hops a good home ;D. I'd be planting this year in pots for the summer to get some growth and then next year I'm building a brewing shed and will be putting a fairly large green-house around two sides of it where I'd be transplanting the hops varieties I got :).
-
It'd have to be one hell of a tall greenhouse. Hops gan grow to be 25 feet tall!
-
Eh? They can, buy they don't have to ;)
