Check it out - a whole library of ye olde brewing bookes, many dating from before they knew what yeast was. Not something to learn technique from, but damned interesting all the same.

Just took a look at Baverstock's Treatise on Brewing. Interesting that this was cutting edge opinion in its day....that the author was told by the owner of Whitbreads to remember his station and "not engage in speculative practices".....and maybe you can see why the Navy was serving rum up until it went nuclear and someone spotted an area of potential risk!
I also notice that it took FOREVER to say something in those days...
