Title: Trailway Brewing Company
Post by: Jake on October 27, 2014, 01:53:50 PM
For those of you that don't know, Dan and I are opening a 1bbl brewery under the name of Trailway Brewing Company and are currently getting close to having the project completed. Construction is nearing completion and we're currently going through licensing. I'm not sure we'd be able to do this without what we've learned as members of the NBCBA. Pretty exciting times for the two of us.

We'll be posting pictures and giving some updates as we go along - but a big thank you to the club for the support so far. For anyone that's big on social media, we're @Trailwaybrewing on twitter, and our Facebook page will be up shortly - like/share/re-tweet/favourite as much as possible. We hope to be selling in solely in restaurants and maybe the odd pub around the city - hoping that the club will be big supporters going forward. Cheers!

Jake

Thanks! We are working on some awesome pale ales, IPAs, stouts and what not, but really we are hoping everyone will support a lot of unique one-off beers

I hope it's more profitable than selling boats @Jake (http://nbcba.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=243)... although just as fun

Fantastic news, congrats!!  Always nice to hear of another craft brewery opening in NB!

What size system will you be brewing on?
Title: Re: Trailway Brewing Company

It'll be a one BBL (30 gallon) system. Dan and I both work full time so we hope to brew between 2-3 times per week starting out

Excellent!  From Stout tanks?  I'm brewing mostly 140L batches and occasionally 160L ones on some of the smaller beers.  You'll no doubt have the same issue that I have in that you're just not able to produce beer fast enough!   ;D

Chris here! It was great to meet with Jake and Dan and get a sneak peek at the brewery location (plus try some test batches :) ).  Just a note, the ACBB is definitely not "my" blog, it is written as much (and many weeks more!) by Shawn, a fellow homebrewer and beer lover. He also writes a beer blog at http://meekbrewingco.blogspot.ca/, and has some great clone recipes straight from the brewers (he has a while series of Maine Beer Co clones).

So, now that John, and Jake and Dan have opened/are opening very soon, who's next? :)

Ps. You may want to fix the registration/post manual capcha, we've moved on from only using barley as a malt in beer. I'd be surprised if you found any in most macro brews. Maybe "malt" or "grain". :)

Late to the party, but following progress on FB and Twitter.   Hope in the proud tradition of the other NB craft brewers, that some of your product will make it down to Ducky's in Sackville.

Cheers!

From the AC Blog...Good stuff guys. Awesome.

TrailWay has brewed a new beer, and it's their first collaboration! Staying true to their roots, they formulated a recipe with two homebrewers from the New Brunswick Craft Brewers Association, Adam Jones and Roger Ringuette. The beer, Sensible Nonsense, is a DIPA hopped with Apollo, Magnum, Orbit, Centennial, and Mosaic, to approximately 95 IBUs. Supported by some malty sweetness thanks to some Vienna and CaraRed malt in the mash, expect this hoppy beer to exhibit lots of fruity, piney, and dank notes. It should come in around 7.5% ABV; look for it to hit taps around Fredericton within the next couple of weeks. They're also planning on experimenting with some casks of this beer, so stay tuned for that (and remember, their inaugural cask release at the King Street Ale House starts tonight at 6 pm!).

Sounds awesome!

It would be cool to be able to get some on tap in Saint John some day. The more brewers the merrier in my books... i have night mares where i'm back in university and the only beer on tap is moosehead and bud light  :shakes:

well, that escalated quickly ...

to clear the air, Yes, Dan and I are eyeing up expansion - we're going through zoning right now with the City for this property, and have talked a couple times with Plaza on this building. Both Dan & I were FLOORED when we heard of this yesterday morning. Nothing has been signed yet, so nothing is a sure thing. We both thought this was very premature (to put it lightly) and the guy from Plaza called to apologize for spilling the beans. I guess when he agreed to do the interview, he didn't even realize that the Microbrewery was going to be discussed. He thought it was going to be a very general discussion of the building. When the interview opened with questions about TrailWay it caught him offguard, and eventually opened up about our plans.

Needless to say, we're pretty excited about the whole thing but there is a fairly lengthy process that needs to play its course with zoning, signing leases, buying equipment, etc. Most of this we've initiated but far from any type of announcement.

Wish us luck

For those that haven't seen it on the TrailWay Facebook or Twitter feed, we're going to be tapping a couple casks of double IPA tomorrow night at the ale house. It was a collaboration beer we did with @Roger (http://nbcba.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1911) & @Fhilo (http://nbcba.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1193) from the Club. Come out and tell these two schmucks how much you enjoy their beer!

Cask 1 was dryhopped again in the the cask, and cask 2 we added bourbon soaked Spanish cedar to it ... and there will also be a 50L on tap as well of the DIPA. If it goes anything like our last cask night, there is a chance these won't last much longer than an hour or so, so don't be too late if you're planning on trying some cask beer.

I'm heading there right from work around 4:30, and we'll likely tap em around 5ish. Hope to see a few people out for this!
