Noble Grape crushed grain and low efficency
« on: December 30, 2011, 05:56:01 PM »
Does anyone else on here brew with grains that are milled from Noble Grape? I brew yesterday and my Eff. seemed really low. I did A batch in the fall with grains from Austin Homebrew supply and  my Eff. was about 70, so I dont think that it is my equipment or process.

I wouldn't be in a hurry to blame the grain from NG, as my efficiency fluctuates from 60ish to 80ish and sometimes worse, with the same grains.  So many factors.  Personally I'm going to start testing water.
Side Note, NG grain is REALLY expensive compared to our group buys.

I've brewed a few batches with grain from NG, and I've always had efficiencies in the 70s.

Justin C: You hit your sparge temp ok? You sure your sparge volume wasn't lower on this batch?

Don't figure it's the grain tbh.

I think I may have found my problem. When I emptied the mash tun tonight it looks like the braided line had floated up about half way up the mash and the tun was on a angle towards the outlet, so it would have not drawn off the grains under the line. We shall see anyways on the next brew.
