Title: Oats
Post by: Thomas on January 29, 2011, 05:58:16 PM
Does anyone know where to buy steel cut oats in decent bulk? Sobeys only caries 1 lb of steel cut oats for ~$6. Alternatively, has anyone gotten good results in a oatmeal stout using regular rolled oats?

Hey Thomas,  the stout I am having a pint of now (served at last meeting and recipe posted) is something I am really pleased with. I just used normal "minute" Quakers' Quick Oats. Granted, I didn't put a huge amount in, but this is the first beer I've ever brewed that I will be re-making an untweaked copy of.

I've also used regular (not quick) Quakers' Oats in the past with good results.

Bulk Barn is where we get ours and they'll be reopening on Prospect in a day or so.
IIRC it's .44 per 100g

Bulk Barn is reopened, and it was actually .22/100g for steel cut oats when the better half picked some up this week. That's less than $1 per pound, substantially less than the packaged stuff.
