Monthly Ideas for meetings
« on: January 25, 2011, 08:58:45 PM »
Was thinking about each month we designate a style and have volunteers re produce that style of beer

EX.......

Feb- ESB
the volunteer would research the history and brew to traditional style and present that beer and information at the last meeting of the month

I myself as a home brewer love knowledge of beer and to have the info presented with a beer brewed to that style would be great and provide a good topic of conversation for that meeting and if more than one person would like to brew that style for the meeting great as we could go from one end of that style guideline to the other

You mean, the person in charge of that style has to brew the beer to present at the meeting?

For a lot of beers, you'd have to make sure you had the schedule far in advance. For example, I wouldn't be able to have a Traditional Bock or Flanders Red ready within even a few months...

No this would be something that would have to be worked out in advance so something like this starting say April that way beer gets to age and what not

Monthly might be too challenging, but a seasonal theme would probably work.

I'm game for this assuming a style suitable for brewing with zero backlog (i.e. without mind-reading, for "normal" schedules). Might I suggest we bootstrap this concept with a low-ABV session ale?

As a wee lad I remember picking gooseberries back in the UK. I think you would have to mash them (chemistry fail, but they get sweeter when cooked) and support their flavour with a lot of either residual or complementary sweetness.
