Title: Hearty Stews
Post by: Kyle on January 14, 2011, 11:39:03 PM
Just about any beer will do here as long as it is mashed such that there is little to no noticable residual sweetness:

1.5 pounds cubed beef, browned
4 large carrots, chopped
2-3 medium onions, chopped
1/2# mushrooms, chopped
3 potatoes, scrubbed (or peeled), and cubed
1 tomato, chopped
1 stick celery, chopped
2 bay (aka laurel or laurier) leaves
pepper to taste
3 cloves garlic, crushed
1 pint water
1 pint ale (such as IPA or stout)
1 can beef broth

Sautee the onion, garlic, and mushrooms in large pan with 1tsp olive oil and 1tsp butter
add beef that has been browned and cubed
add the rest of the ingredients
simmer for at least 4 hours
bring to boil
serve with freshly made baguette and beer.
