30 Minute Boil
« on: April 08, 2012, 11:47:00 PM »
I just brewed my second batch of steam beer, but this time I boiled for only 30. I want to see if there's much of a difference. I doubled the hops at 30 and according to by brew software it is the about the same IBUs as my first batch which I'm currently drinking as I type this.

I used 1oz of Galena at 30, approx 11% AA ... from what I recall it is a very clean bittering hop, and I used cascade at 15 and flameout. From what I've read if you get a strong boil going, DMS shouldn't be a problem ... I know there are more reasons for a longer boil but i figured i'd give it a shot.

I don't see a 30 minute boil being much of an option for hoppy beers such as IPA's because you'd need to use pile of hops, but for low IBU beers, figured why not

Good experiment.  I'm interested to see how this one turns out.
