Title: Odd size ball lock connectors
Post by: brew on January 23, 2012, 02:33:31 PM
So I have this corny keg I picked up from a buddy - looks exactly like a regular pepsi keg except that when you try to connect the gas or liquid lines, they wont go on. Turns out the ball lock connectors are ever so slightly wider on this keg than on a normal one we've been using. So I unscrew these connectors and try another one from another keg, and the threads are just a tiny bit wider, so a normal connector wont screw onto this keg. Hmmmm - ever heard of this size before?

You sure it's not a pin lock?

Yuh - I have a pin lock - and FYI the pin lock connectors have the same size thread as the ball lock connectors...

Never seen one myself - just knew they're different somehow

Yeah I was surprised - I can convert a coke keg (pin lock) by swapping out the pin lock connectors for ball lock connectors - cheapest I found though was about $14 before shipping, so it seemed pointless mess with it since it might just as well get another keg...

Yeah I have a couple of kegs that I just use to steal parts from since they were kinda screwed to start with.

There are half a dozen different manufacturers, and the parts are not interchangeable.  The posts often have different threads, but for the post connector to be a different size...never heard of that.

I THINK I have had this problem before, if I am understanding you... I tried to put the gas connector on it and it wouldnt fit and I actually damaged my gas connector taking it off. Still works fine though. That keg just sits around in my basement.

Yeah for this one, while they LOOK similiar, I think you'd need a hammer to get either a gas or a liquid connector on these posts...
