Title: Burner
Post by: Cuba on June 25, 2015, 04:58:09 PM
Looking to buy a burner, along with a bunch of other brewing stuff. However, I'm a little concerned about being able to use a normal propane tank with such a high output burner.

This is what I'm looking at:
http://www.ontariobeerkegs.com/KAB6_Bayou_Classic_210_000_BTU_Burner_Turkey_Fryer_p/kab6.htm

It says that it will run off a normal propane tank. But, Everwood's sells the burner piece of this for homemade burner setups and says that it cannot run off a normal propane tank:

Advice needed before purchase. If it helps at all, I am buying a 15 gal brew kettle planning on ~10 gal batches.

Thanks everyone

Unfortunately I can't help you with your question. Just wanted to say congrats on your upgrades!

Thanks @robcoombs (http://nbcba.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=2012)! I got a couple gift certificates to everwoods for my birthday and was planning a trip to NS in August.  Lots of time to decide what I want, then I'll pick it up on the way back home.

It looks like I may have made a mistake, the Everwood site may be saying that it cannot run off propane from an internal house system...not worded very well. I guess this can turn into what burner do you guys suggest for a 15 Gal brew kettle? :)

You should talk to @DandyMason (http://nbcba.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=486) about that burner, apparently it's a beast but sucks propane really fast.

Everwood I think has the best deal on 15gal the last time I looked

I am thinking when they say "house propane or natural gas" they are referring to a direct line into your house, as opposed to a tank.

Least that is how I read it.

We use that same burner from OBK with a 30lb tank, haven't had any problems yet....except burning a lot of propane. Luckily its pretty cheap these days at Costco.
If you are planning to mash in a picnic cooler, I have a copper pipe manifold you can have.

I've got this one as well and agreed, it works great but sucks propane.

Awesome, thanks everyone. I'm less concerned about propane usage and a bit more concerned about ability to brew in the cold months. Looks like this is the burner I'll be going with.
