Aluminum kegs
« on: September 27, 2011, 06:59:45 PM »
Anyone ever work with aluminum kegs?  I've got a line on some 50Ls but as they are aluminum I'm not sure what good they might be?

Boil pots?  Perhaps Mash tuns?  Can one ferment in an aluminum vessel?

Every all grain brew I have done to date was in aluminum. Works great as a boil kettle

Thats what I was thinking (I too boil in Aluminium) but then I got wondering if these might have some sort of liner (like a pop/beer can) as I can't see how storing beer in contact with Aluminum would'nt affect taste.

I think I may have to look them over first, maybe do a bit more of the googly.

well, if they are good for fermenting and the AL kegs are cheap, I'd be interested in buying some as well.

if they can hold beer to drink you should be able to ferment in them for sure

Would suspect you would want to check them carefully for any damage to the interior, if they are lined.
