those are both good bets, something will come up, but you may have to wait a few weeks. When I get back to F'ton I'll be looking for a couple of them as well.

this looks like a good deal, I'd buy it myself if I weren't in the process of packing to move:

Yup; looks like one of the older ones which double as nuclear fallout shelters - I'd grab it.

And requires your own personal nuclear reactor to power... :shakes:

Oh, and requires a chick and a dolly to move.

I actually bought this one a couple hours ago!! 40 bucks, I figure I cant go wrong really... I have a hop dawgs order coming in today with a fridge thermostat... so should be good to go! Any suggestions on what temp I should set the freezer at?

it's really about personal preference, but about 7 degrees C is good for serving most ales, about 2 degrees C for lagers.

Yeah I'm considering jacking my keezer up a few degrees. I had it set to 2C to allow for cold-crashes as well as serving, but I don't like serving beer at 2C. Might have to get a mini-chest for doing the crashes + lagering.

Yeah Im thinking around 5-6 degrees will be good for my freezer. Still A few decent chest freezers up on kijiji Richard.

have you tried to see if your's has the set screw on it? that way if it works, you won't need the other thermostat. Or did you mean you ordered a temperature controller?

here's the old thread i started about the set screw..in case you missed it.

Yeah sorry got the temp controller ...

So... assuming you guys have seen this one before... Do I just run the stainless steel sensor up the side and into the freezer?

i got the end of my sensor in a bottle of water on the inside...the rest is on the outside attached to the back of my collar.

me either, richard seems to like using smart words..  akimbo

the way i understand it....air temp changes more rapidly than liquid temps....so you want your beer at a certain temp and not the air around it. Best way to replicate it, short of putting the probe into a keg, is to put it into another liquid. When i had mine dangling in the air, my freezer would kick in all the time....now, not so much.

My bad; didn't mean to be so succinct but was on a phone keyboard thing. Jmac's explanation is better; the extra mass of the water provides buffering against temperature fluctuations. Some temperature controllers (such as mine) have a built-in feature to provide this effect.

what type do you have?

hahaha Sounds good!

I don't mind not understanding either... you just let me know what works and I will do it!  :D

I do understand what youre saying with the bottle of water... seems like it would provide a more consistent temperature.

But you need to make sure that your specific temp controller probe is ment to be submerged in water !!!

I dont think your supposed to some people have had them go dead but others have not as lon as you only submerge the metal end VS where it meets the wire I think youll be fine

Also; I spent the last 5 years stuck in an academic ivory tower, and old habits die hard. If anyone ever feels I'm being too academic with my posts, let me know - I'd rather the posts I made be useful to people, they're not put up here for mental masturbation

You know you're young and have a whole life ahead of you when you consider 5 years as "old habits"

....and I've been subtly letting you know for months now  ;)

Subtlety isn't a strong point of mine

More seriously though if I say specific things and you want me to be clearer, just let me know.
