LSA Revisited
« on: July 05, 2015, 11:45:30 PM »
This is a BMC take on the ever-popular Light Summer Ale. I am using it as a base to make a radler, and a raspberry beer. Additionally, some will be heavily dry-hopped.

For 25 gallon yield:
22# 2-row
18# Bohemian Pilsner
1.5 tbsp gypsum in mash
1tsp magnesium sulfate in mash
Fredericton water
Mash temp 150, for 90 minutes

1.75oz Galena @90 minutes in boil
no other hops

US-05 yeast

26 gallons into fermenter

target abv = ~4%

Do you know how much gypsum and MgSO4 that is by weight? Seems a little low for that much water doesn't it?

I don't know the weight. I generally use a lot more in "things with flavour," especially anything hoppy. I wanted just enough to take the roundness of the taste out, and bring it in the direction of crisp, but not to quite get there. I will report back as to whether this was sufficient.

Radler:

I put 2 liters of Ocean Spray grapefruit juice and 3 tbsp of lime juice into a keg, and then filled to the brim with the LSA. It was very, very good. I let it sit a few days with a spunding valve to secondary ferment, prior to chilling and serving.

I've got 2.5 gallons of Kolsch in a keg that I'm planning to do the same to later today. I'll likely just halve your mixture, thanks for posting this!
