Mashing this now - resisting the urge to pour a beer while I wait... :drink:

I added the rice hulls to my strike water calc this time and the extra pound looks like it made the mash tun contents less clumpy - seems to work better this way. With 12 lbs of grain that 4 G strike water and the mash temp is a little higher this time around (like 154)... fuller body? Maybe I'll be able to answer that in another 10 years of brewing... (no I don't intend to stop - this is too cool...)

More grain = higher strike temperature required.
Higher ambient temperature = lower strike temperature required.

Yesterday my numbers were a little off on strike (too high - ambient temperature threw me off), but I always have a half gallon of both boiling and cold water to make adjustments. I add it in eighths of a gallon, check again, add more if necessary.

Really though, you just have to learn your system. I suspect more like one year rather than ten...

Except brew and I are REALLY OLD and it takes us longer to learn things, you'll understand when you're over 40, too...trust me.
Now if we can get to the magical 1000 batches a year, then we might get it down under 10 years, except that of course we'll both be permanently pissed, so unable to remember anything when waking up the next day anyway...hmmm another circular problem. I think I need a drink to help me get smarter so I can figure out the solution.
