Rye IPA second Batch

11.00 lbs   Canadian 2-Row Malt; Canada Malting
3.00 lbs   Rye Malt
0.75 lbs   Weyermann CaraMunich® III; Weyermann
0.99 lbs   White Wheat Malt
0.25 lbs   Weyermann Carafa Special® TYPE II; Weyerman
1 lbs           White Table Sugar (Sucrose)

1 oz   Summit™ (Pellets, 17.6 %AA) boiled 60 min.
2.0 oz   Cascade (Pellets, 5.50 %AA) boiled 15 min.
3.0 oz   Cascade (Pellets, 5.50 %AA) boiled 1 min.

Yeast :   Fermentis US-05 Safale US-05

Original Gravity   1.074
Terminal Gravity   1.015
Color   18.17 °SRM
Bitterness   99.2 IBU
Alcohol (%volume)   7.8 %

I think im gonna call this pokerface as saturday after meeting Kyle, richard and I played poker for growlers and needless to say I LOST sooooooo I owe 2 growlers to richard so im going to alter the above recipe to be over 100 IBU

He's going to get a gallon of this too:

2 lbs Rye Malt
6.75 lbs Maris Otter Pale
.75 lbs Weyermann CaraMunich® II
.75 lbs Vienna Malt; Weyermann

.75 oz Galena (Pellets, 11 %AA) boiled 60 min.
1 oz Amarillo® (Pellets, 9.3 %AA) boiled 15 min.
1 oz Fuggle (Pellets, 4.6 %AA) boiled 1 min.

Yeast :    Fermentis S-04 Safale S-04

Mash 1 hr at 150F
Edit: batch size is 4.5 US gallons

Yeah the first batch is going to be a bit of a learning curve thing... figure out what flame height to go with. I got the flame burning pure blue and about 2"-3"tall, so hopefully that rate or less will maintain a nice boil. Trying to avoid yellow in the flame...

I'd worry if your firing in that shed of yours.  Too much yellow means excess CO is being create.  If you're feeling sleepy, LEAVE!

Yeah the fresh paint burning off the thing was much more of a hazard than CO would have been - stank for a while, then turned white and all was well.

Why the f*** do they paint these things anyway?
