Lazy day Rye-PA

My comp entry:

2 lbs Rye Malt, Generic
6.75 lbs Maris Otter, Muntons
.75 lbs Weyermann CaraMunich® II
.75 lbs Vienna Malt; Weyermann

.75 oz Galena (Pellets, 11 %AA) boiled 60 min.
1 oz Amarillo® (Pellets, 9.3 %AA) boiled 15 min.
1 oz Fuggle (Pellets, 4.6 %AA) boiled 1 min.

fermented at 6psi

Mash 1 hr at 150F, with 4.5 US gal water
Sparge 15 min @ 168F, with 4 US gal water

batch size is 4.5 US gallons
Edit: O.G. = 1046: not quite high enough, but will enter anyway. Swapped yeast out at last minute to US-05

This is pretty good, one of those IPAs you could have a gallon's worth on a hot day. Next time, though, I'd make it stronger.

for the abv, yes, although, I think I'll add 2 pounds of base grain and .25oz galena next time.

For 1.046 OG it should be alright, I think... that was pretty much my first reaction until I saw the gravity though.

When you design an IPA, do you look at the IBU/OG to get a good balance?

balancing BU/GU in an IPA isn't always the way to go; depends on how far you're pushing the hop-envelope, but 1:1 is a fair bottom limit.
