Heady Inspired IPA
« on: January 18, 2015, 08:22:56 PM »
OG came in at 1.070 and FG at 1.020...  I was expecting 1.010ish FG so not sure what happened. It's so full of dry hops (very hazy) that I suspect it may be throwing off the hydrometer readings, def doesn't taste that sweet?  I'll try to take another reading with flattened sample after carbonation.

If the FG is accurate it clocked in at 6.6% ABV
If FG is around 1.010, it would be above 7.5%

IBU calculations are off too, shouldn't be any bitterness from whirlpooling at 180F.

Either way... it's beer.

The american amber I did with that yeast had the same attenuation problem.  I think it’s the first time I under attenuated a beer.  It finished @ 1.015 and for the same wort fermented with WLP090 or WY1450 it finished @ 1.008
And like you, it doesn’t taste sweet but when I compared it to the others, the hops in the others is much brighter and sharp
I want to try the yeast bay strain

Thanks Jamie... I'm a bit disappointed with the attenuation of this yeast but glad to know the FG reading is (somewhat ) accurate.

I'm used to high attenuation American type yeasts (WLP001, US05, WY1056) so I automatically assumed this would be similar  :-[

Def interested in trying the yeast bay strain as well..
