12lbs 2-row

1lb chocolate malt
4oz Roasted Barley

3oz Northern Brewer (9.6%) @ 60mins
2oz Amarillo @ 10mins

dry hop 2oz Cascade for 1 week after primary ferment.

(Will add this to brewblog when I get time -- just writing this here so I remember it later ;))

Do you have any access to one of the Carafa Specials (I, II, or III)? Since they're dehusked, they give a lot of the dark color and a more mild roast flavor, compared to the high roastiness you'll get from regular Carafa and Chocolate malt. Otherwise, you may end up with more of a really hoppy porter, compared to a Black IPA.

The NG in Halifax (of course) carries the Carafa Special III, I think...

Kyle advised I shove in some roast barley; recipe amended as above. For good or bad we'll see how this goes ;)

Shawn: Next time I'll get some Carafa Special like you mentioned, to replace the chocolate + roasted.

Only got 60% efficiency again rather than the 70% I was hoping for... What kinda mash grain/water ratio are people using for say 15lbs of grain? Seems when I go above about 13lbs my efficiency drops to 60%.

Shawn: changed the title to reflect your suggestion; here's hoping it tastes good anyway :D
